As Latter-day Saints (Mormons) we are commanded by our Lord to “Renounce War and Proclaim Peace.” The word “renounce” is defined as a “public declaration.” This Declaration was created to give an opportunity to individual members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to publicly and unequivocally renounce all current and future nation to nation wars and armed conflicts.
For more than a century, nations have assumed that Latter-day Saints (Mormons) would support, as a matter of default, all wars sponsored by their respective nations, whether moral or not, as a matter of citizenship duty. However, it is our belief that our highest values found in the words and example of Jesus of Nazareth inform and compel us to Conscientiously Object, or rather “renounce” all wars without exception. Therefore, as Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) we want to give notice to our respective nations that we, who sign this Declaration, hereby, Conscientiously Object to all current Nation to Nation wars and armed conflicts as well as those that will occur in the future.
We hope to individually, and then collectively, as Latter Day Saints restore the highest Christian faith tradition found in our sacred texts and Christian values by renouncing all wars past and future, and thus, as other faiths have done, establish both a doctrinal and legal presumption that as Latter Day Saints, we have finally joined the ranks of other faith communities that are known to have a Conscientious Objection tradition when it comes to nation-to-nation wars and all armed conflicts as a means to achieving any lasting peace.
No private information about signers will be conveyed to any other party.
